Coaching Services and Testimonials

As your certified life coach, I can help you:

  • Examine the stories you have been telling yourself to identify what is real and what is not and help you write a new narrative for your life and move into action.
  • Examine the role that alcohol has played in your life and help you change make strides to get sober.
  • Learn to trust yourself.
  • Gain the autonomy and courage to choose your path to sobriety.
  •  Identify programs to join to help you in your recovery journey.
  •  Examine your recovery toolbox and offer suggestions for what additional resources you may need.
  •  With accountability.
  •  Establish goals that align with what is right for you and not what you think you “should” to do when changing your relationship with alcohol. (There are a lot of expectations and “shoulds” in mainstream recovery, and we work on letting those expectations go! You’ll learn I throw the word “should” out of our vocabulary pretty quickly!)
  •  Learn to feel your feelings, so you can embrace the ups and downs of the human experience.
  •  Create action plans for situations in your life that may trigger you to drink that include strategies to overcome barriers that may stand in your way.

Life coaching with me is perfect for you if:

  • Are seeking guidance and mentorship in your sobriety journey.
  • Want to get sober, but are not sure where to start.
  • You have been sober for some time, but now you feel stuck.
  • You feel shame about parts of your history and question your worthiness of receiving the things you want.
  • You’re struggling with your personal relationships as a result of your drinking history.
  • You feel that trying to change your life for the better has been more challenging than you anticipated.
  • You struggle with figuring what to do because of common social messages about addiction.

I can help you because:

  • First, read my client reviews below!
  • I was an incredibly successful professional woman who lived a life filled with shame because of my secret addiction to alcohol and since revealing my addiction, I have changed my life entirely and maintained continuous sobriety since November of 2020.
  • When I got sober, I made and successfully executed a plan to change my life. Areas I have created change in include my career, location, debt, physical wellness, and relationships.
  • Aside from my lived experience, I am an ICF (International Coaching Federation) certified life coach.
  • I’m proud to share I’m not a guru and I am always participating in continuing education about addiction. For example, I completed attendance at the Mobilize Recovery Conference in September of 2023 where I learned from the nation’s top addiction experts and advocates.
  • I have experience working with clients both through my LLC as well as through coaching individuals and facilitating support group meetings on alcohol recovery communities such as the Reframe App and The Luckiest Club.
  • I am a native Spanish speaker.

I am NOT the coach for you if:

  • You expect me to promise you a life free of cravings. I won’t. I can promise you this incredibly hard work is worth it and rewarding, but not easy.
  • Expect a quick fix. It took me 14 months of trying to quit before I finally stopped drinking. Just because it took me a long time does not mean it will take you a long time. There are some coaches who promise instant results, which I won’t, because actual addictions aren’t dealt with instant fixes.
  • Expect tough love. Life is hard enough as it is, I’m not here to make you feel worse.

On the other hand, the 45-minute session model supports clients with limited knowledge about addiction, and it incorporates both educational resources and coaching components. I also offer tiered pricing to allow clients to self-select what they are comfortable with paying for coaching based on their personal circumstances. Working with Jessica has definitely been a life saving experience. When I hit rock bottom, I felt hopeless. My drinking was out of control and I didn’t want to lose my family or my business. I have been sober now since June, 2023. Jessica gave me the tools and the support I needed. Without judgment. Just pure kindness and guidance. If you are struggling with drinking too much, and are looking to stop or cut back, Jessica is the person who can help you in your journey to recovery.

-Marlenee G, Coaching Client

Working with Jessica was instrumental  to the first four months of my sobriety. She is compassionate, down-to-earth, and endlessly responsive and supportive. Our coaching sessions gave me practical, actionable ways to help get to the core of why I was drinking and to begin to shift my self-talk and self-image so that alcohol was no longer my go-to response to life. Jessica truly meets you where you are AND helps you clearly see that it’s possible to get to where you want to be.

-Sara G, Coaching Client

I’m feeling so happy and content. I feel like when you and I started talking, it was when my pink cloud was leaving. I went through many challenges and feel like I’m just so much more capable of conquering life. I’ve gained so much confidence from all the things that you’ve taught me.

When I learned about harm reduction, that I can’t recover if I’m dead, that changed my life.

I feel much more capable of dealing with life. I feel like everyone needs a coach like you to get through things and learn skills that I never would have learned from just going to meetings. This work really took my sobriety and growth to the next level, and I’m so thankful that I did this for myself. Coaching has really helped me navigate this new life that I live.

– Kateland, Coaching Client

When I first reached out to Jessica, I was drinking heavily and spiraling out of control. My relationships, how I was handling my divorce, everything was too much for me. I was overwhelmed. Jessica was very relatable, connected her experience, and helped me with my mindset and how I interpreted my emotions and interactions. I learned to not jump to conclusions. I used to think my thoughts were my reality, and now I can see things differently. Since coaching, I’ve learned to process my emotions and how to use self-talk and see how it relates to my behavior. I’ve been able to separate the stories I tell myself from what is real. I’ve been able to separate my relationship with alcohol from the complex feelings I had. I’m in control, and the alcohol is no longer controlling me. I came in with such a helpless attitude, but now I’m much more confident in everything I do. Even with being a parent, I have a much better relationship with my kids now because I get to be present versus when I was numbing myself to be around them. You do such a good job, and as a woman of color I needed this. Thank you so much.

Jessica taught me to consider who my audience is and how to effectively grab the attention of my readers. I received constructive and valuable feedback from Jessica and my fellow workshop participants which enabled me to expand and enrich my story.

Jessica is an outstanding and compassionate teacher. She creates a safe space to share our stories. I appreciated her laid back demeanor which helped calm my anxiety around sharing. I looked forward to each session and my writing improved tremendously. I highly recommend Jessica’s Writing To Heal course. In fact, I may enroll again! Thank you Jessica!

-Sue, Writing Student

Writing to Heal with Jessica empowered me to confront and release the shame and guilt surrounding my sexual abuse and my life choices in the ensuing decades. Through this transformative experience, I found the courage to share the essential details of my past with my family, illuminating the reasons behind my parenting style and my perpetual fear of being discovered.

The small group sessions in the class proved invaluable to me, as they provided constructive feedback and allowed me to prioritize the timeline of events while emphasizing the importance of expressive writing and dialogue. The supportive environment fostered within these sessions enabled me to delve deeper into my healing process.

As I continue to write for closure, I may one day gather the strength to share my story on a broader platform. By doing so, I hope to help others realize that they are not alone in their existence and that no one deserves to suffer from sexual abuse. Additionally, I aim to shed light on the fact that life choices involving alcohol and drugs serve to prolong the healing journey.

In conclusion, Writing to Heal with Jessica Dueñas has been instrumental in my growth and healing. This class has equipped me with the tools, guidance, and inspiration necessary to navigate my journey of self-discovery and resilience. I wholeheartedly recommend this class to anyone seeking a safe and transformative space to confront their past, find their voice, and embark on a healing path through the power of writing.

This writing workshop was incredibly helpful! I signed up for this workshop because I want to be able to articulate where I’ve been, what’s happened in my life, and what I’ve learned. I want to get rid of my pile of secrets and shame and own my own story. The workshop provided a framework and safe space to start this process. Additionally, working through part my story with Jessica led to super productive conversations with my therapist – and I am so thankful for the insight!

-Heather, Writing Student

My life came screaming into focus after making the choice to stop drinking. Sobriety is a blessing but it can also be overwhelming. Working with Jess has helped me to distinguish between what needs attention now and what can wait.

In my drinking days, the window looking into my everyday pictured a hazy, flat greyscale. Almost as soon as I committed to an alcohol free life,  that underexposed  picture focused into a vivid and sharp image. Important  features of my life that were in the background before became alarmingly clear. Everything that was broken or neglected felt like it needed to be fixed right away. Jess has helped focus the spotlight that sobriety has shined into my life.

Sober living is brightly colored. My instinct was to close my eyes immediately, especially in the early days. Jess has helped me prioritize the things in my life and business which need improvement first and make decisions one step at a time.

Jess checks all the boxes for an online life coach. She is punctual, clear and thorough. She listens, takes notes, communicates effectively and offers genuine – but challenging – feedback and advice. Jess is an actual life coach, she teaches and reinforces long term habit loops that will work for your personality type provided that you follow through on the challenge. 10/10. Thanks Jess.

The time that we spent, where I started versus where I am now, and the fact that you gave me such good structure and tools to support the growth that I have found over the last six meetings that we’ve had. I feel like I’m in a different place and feel like I’m standing on firmer ground after the support I received from you.

-Tiffany, Coaching Client

I can’t believe where I am now compared to where I was when I first started with you. I appreciate how open you were to where I was on my path and journey and how you could meet me where I was at. I’ve learned and grown so much, and feel so fortunate that you were my coach. You were the right person at the right time for me.

-Maureen, Coaching Client

I had no idea that hearing other people’s powerful writing would help inspire me to write. It was a beautiful, vulnerable space which are my favourite. Thank you for creating it and holding it for us.

Louise, Writing Student

Jessica you are such a beautiful light in the world. Thank you for sharing and doing this workshop. I’m inspired to definitely write.

(Translation: When I decided to look for a coach, I was at a point where I felt that I was not going to be able to stop drinking alone. It was getting much more difficult than I thought. I told myself, “I can quit whenever I want,” but when I realized that I had a powerful habit, I decided that I needed a coach. When I saw that you spoke Spanish I thought, you’re a perfect fit. I saw how important it was to have someone who had the same experience as me. Together, seeing what my thoughts were, what my options were, was very important. Also what I appreciated was that even though I slipped up, I didn’t feel judged. You said, “Okay, so let’s examine what we’re going to do differently from now on.” You helped me examine myself and give me myself grace. And now I have a plan to continue on this journey.

-Lynn A., Coaching Client

This has been super, super helpful. Fifteen days sober seemed impossible. It really did. In the beginning, I felt I had tried everything. I wasn’t convinced that more coaching would fix my drinking because I had done coaching before and continued to go back to my old ways of drinking.

Signing up, I was kind of like, “this is a last resort.”

I felt cautiously optimistic. Can anyone get me past 7 days without tying my hands behind my back and taking away my credit card? But here I am, and that is amazing. I feel better, and I’ve learned along the way that some of what I thought was working for me wasn’t. Maybe things I did served a purpose at a certain time, but as I’ve worked with you, I’ve realized things can change. If I hadn’t been working with you, I might still be OCD about my 10 morning rituals that “must” happen before I step out of bed, but now I go more with the flow, which is nice. You picked up on the fact that, in a sense, I was overdoing things to the point that I was putting more stress on myself and it was counterproductive to my attempts to quit drinking.

Now I feel more confident in doing what feels good at a given moment. You’ve created a safe space for me. You always have questions ready to go, pick up on key points from things I say, and have given me great guidance. You have been so helpful, and I’m very grateful.

-Sarah L., Coaching Client

Before coaching I had no one holding me accountable for anything I was doing. When Jessica came into the picture, it definitely gave me motivation. I finally met someone who understood what it’s really like to be addicted. Every other person who I have spoken to has been this super “professional” person who hasn’t been where I’ve been. Speaking with Jessica hasn’t been the sterile, cold lack of connection that I have received from other professionals. Jessica has given me someone to hold myself accountable with. I thought I was just pretty much going to die, but I’m finally seeing myself again. The old me is finally coming back and I feel myself coming alive again.

-Aaron J., Coaching Client

Before working with Jessica, my alcohol use included drinking two bottles of wine a night, and it was progressively getting worse. I would get depressed and angry with my family. It was worth talking to Jessica to reset and refocus on my greater life goals. I needed that support from her to push me. I liked working with Jessica. She didn’t judge me. It was great having someone from the outside to help me focus. Since working with Jessica, I’ve reduced my drinking to less than a half bottle in a week! Not only that, my relationships with my family have improved greatly. Jessica encouraged me to work with them to get their support. My family was so happy to see my work with her, especially when they saw me improve in communicating with them. I started asking for help. My husband initially asked, “What are you getting out of it?” but now he sees that I’ve legit been doing work. That is the key thing that has helped me from working with Jessica, I can go back and not be scared to talk to my family about what I need, and I drink less as a result.

-Kristina, Coaching Client

The workshop was amazing. It helped me to gather my thoughts and loved how you incorporated mindfulness techniques. Being that it was my first time, it helped me to put my thoughts in to perspective to begin to continue to first journal everything out. Then eventually, share my testimony with first myself and then open it up to group who also has gone through similar things as I. I do want many to know that they are not alone in there journey. Thank you for allowing a workshop and for what you continue to do for the community. You’re appreciated and it is not going unseen.

-Danielle, Writing Workshop Participant

Great workshop! I learned a lot especially on how to lead the reader into my story. Jessica created a comfortable space that allowed us to vulnerably share our stories. Highly recommend.

-Jane, Writing Workshop Participant

The tips and mini exercises helped me get more clear on my writing process. It helped me realize what my focus actually was which made it easier to start writing. Getting feedback in real time was so helpful!

-Alisa, Writing Workshop Participant

Great way to get me started on my writing. I appreciate you!

-Maura, Writing Workshop Participant

I really liked how you built in so much time for wellness and how you provided a lot of practical examples of what you were teaching. Thank you for making a space where so many people were willing to be open and honest and vulnerable. I think that’s a really special and valuable thing!

-Oli, Writing Workshop Participant

Loved this session! Jessica curated a safe space for everyone and I loved taking the time to think about how I could share my story in writing. I appreciated how you read all the comments and acknowledged them as I wasn’t in a space where I felt comfortable speaking the whole time.

-Erin, Writing Workshop Participant

Very helpful! The time actually went by quickly. I like how engaging it was and the safety I felt inside the space. Jessica provided a thoughtful framework for writing about difficult topics.

-Priscilla, Writing Workshop Participant

This workshop was effective and helpful in structuring my writing in regards to my story.

-Samantha, Writing Workshop Participant

This was worthwhile for me personally. I haven’t shown anyone but my husband what I wrote. I feel like I can go back and look at what I have so far and structure it a little differently. Make it more approachable and perhaps more interesting.

-Amy, Writing Workshop Participant

Really loved the session. Even as someone with a little bit of writing experience already I found it really helpful to begin rethinking about the process as a fresh start and truly I believe the workshop helped me come up with the opening chapter of my eventual memoir/self help book so thank you so much!

-Erik, Writing Workshop Participant

Great workshop, Jessica! Super helpful to be given a framework on how to approach writing while also getting connected to others with similar goals. Not only that, but loved that we also incorporated mindfulness and personal wellness into the workshop and had the opportunity to assess how we are feeling.

-Anonymous, Writing Workshop Participant

You really are a great teacher! I have been wanting to start writing for a while, and this workshop gave me a great foundation. Thank you so much.

-Lorraine, Writing Workshop Participant

As someone newly sober, I had no idea what to expect from this workshop. I didn’t know if it would be relevant or just another seminar. I am so grateful I signed up! Not only was there immense learning and sharing, I also found this workshop to be so valuable to my own healing. I tapped into feelings I’d forgotten and I found a way to deal with them beyond alcohol. Jessica is an amazing teacher and a genuinely compassionate mentor in the writing and sobriety space. Can’t wait to join the next event!

In the beginning, I had a lot of issues with setting boundaries, having more confidence in myself, and learning how to manage my money sober. Working with Jessica was a good way to focus on things that I usually would skirt to the side. Coaching gave me more of an intent. I felt like I had a structured purpose and goals. When things popped up in my personal life, we would also address those life issues, and Jessica could connect my concerns back to my goals and show me how everything was related. Since wrapping up my first six weeks with Jessica, I now actually have money to save! She taught me how to spend mindfully. Jessica also helped me advocate for myself and replace negative self-talk with positive self-talk. My inner dialogue/narrative has improved greatly as a mom. That was a huge barrier for me before. I used to look at motherhood in a very black-and-white way, and Ive learned as a sober mom to reframe my perspective, and Jessica has encouraged me to make being kinder to myself a practice. I have a sponsor and a therapist, and coaching with Jessica has really brought it full circle to help me focus on my life goals. Therapy helps me with my social-emotional needs, my sponsor helps me with my program, and Jessica with my life goals. Now, I look forward to continuing to work on my recovery goals and making plans for moving forward in other areas of my life, including next steps in my financial goals.Jacqueline D Coaching Client

Jessica came into my life when I was wondering how to structure the time that early sobriety had brought me. She helped me identify and pursue new interests, and encouraged me to keep an open mind about trying a variety of new things. She gently pushed me to do things outside of my comfort zone, such as seeking support groups for recovery, and advised me on the which groups might be a good fit for me based on my interests and needs. Jessica is so open about sharing her story, I felt like I could be honest with her and that she understood the more nuanced aspects of recovery through her lived experiences. She helped me reflect on the barriers I was putting up for myself if I didnt follow through on something that I had committed to the week before, and gently pushed me to try again. She was always ready with recommendations such as books and apps when I asked for them, and it was helpful to reflect on them together. Jessica’s wholistic approach to recovery, which focuses on how to live a full life and not just a life without alcohol, helped me shift my own perspective about what a sober life could look and feel like.Ashley L Coaching Client

Before working with Jessica, I didn’t know what to do with my time. I was extremely anxious to start filling my time with meaningful things. I felt like my life was changing and I didn’t know how to keep up. I was 6 months sober and at that point I was noticing that though I wasn’t thinking about alcohol all the time, my other issues were starting to trigger me. Also, I was extremely codependent, always staying at my boyfriend’s house having to be right next to him. Boredom was discouraging me, and I felt like a “dumb” alcoholic. Finding Jessica showed me that sober doesn’t mean boring. I learned that if people are judging me then so what. Working with Jessica was empowering. Sessions gave me structure for what to do with my week. I felt like everything I was working on was doable and measurable. When I first started coaching I didn’t know what to do with my time, now I have things I can do. I have now learned how to organize my time better and have productive things to do. Now my codependency has gone down from a highly escalated 9-10, down to a 6-7. I spent more time at home and not having to always be right next to my boyfriend. I understand now that space is really needed. After meeting with and working with Jessica, I feel so grateful. Jessica encouraged me to find a therapist to help me through some of my mental health concerns. My perspective has changed a lot. I don’t want to keep my alcoholism a secret anymore. My recovery is a badge of honor. I know I have the capacity to change things. I felt like crap in the beginning and now I feel very confident about what I am doing in my recovery. I know that I have options in recovery for the rest of my life, I know I can do this. I can be sober and live a fun life in New York City.Sarah A Coaching Client

Going through the coaching process with Jessica has brought incredible energy and self-confidence into so many aspects of my life. I feel like an Olympic athlete returning from top of the line training camp – focused and energized. For many years, before I gave up drinking, I would give myself the excuse that I didn’t want to be a dry drunk, living a shrunken, colorless life. I told Jessica I wanted to focus on building a full and vibrant life without alcohol. I thought that might be too much to hope for but going through the coaching process with Jessica has helped me see what is vibrant in my life and how to nurture it and also what outdated mental habits were keeping me stuck in dead end behaviors. It’s alchemy! Going through life coaching with Jessica has brought results far beyond my expectations. I try to analyze Jessica’s magic but it doesn’t fit into a spreadsheet. It has something to do with her deep listening. Jessica identifies areas of focus from my own words. Promising action steps towards personal goals – Jessica weaves them from my personal narrative, not from cut and paste worksheets. Quitting drinking was hard enough but that was just step one. Step two is rebuilding a life that doesn’t require being anesthetized. That step seemed too overwhelming. Why didn’t my post alcohol life look like a fairy book ending? What I needed was allies in my journey but AA just wasn’t a good fit for me. I’m so glad I found Bottomless to Sober and went through coaching with Jessica. I know this post alcohol chapter is still going to be challenging but the energy and insight and focus I’ve gained through the coaching process makes it seem doable. Actually, more than doable – I think this chapter is going to be epic! I am more confident and consistent in what works. Before I just had a mix of this is what I’m doing but working with Jessica helped me focus on what is really working. What I really wanted to do was reduce my anxiety and I feel like I was able to build a consistent practice to not allow anxiety to get out of control. That was the most palpable effect of coaching that I’ve noticed. – Jessica P. Coaching Client

My goal for coaching was to organize and structure my organizations first youth seminar. One of the challenges I had before working with Jessica was that I needed accountability. Also, I needed help in looking at planning this event from different perspectives. I am a school psychologist and needed a perspective from someone else who could give me feedback of how things could come across to others. I learned a lot about piecing together how I could tackle creating an event. I learned how to create a task list of important items to execute. I learned about different strategies to implement to attract participants. I learned how to create an overall game plan to organize a major event and then break it down into a week by week sequence. I now have all of the pieces in place, speakers confirmed, a venue, and everything is ready to roll to execute my very first youth seminar. As a result of the coaching, I now have a blueprint for how I would galvanize people and resources for events, and for how I would structure a major happening for my organization.Julius D. Coaching Client

Before working together, I was very weighed down by self-limiting thoughts and anxiety around starting my coaching and speaking business and getting it off the ground. I was also struggling with organization. With Jessica, I learned to put goals together. Jessica is very organized, on time, and always was communicative. She checked in the day before every session to make sure I was ready. Also, we worked off a Google doc together, and I would refer to it during the week. Jessica organized it with notes and the next steps every week. Having Jessica as an accountability partner helped me ensure I didn’t come empty-handed to sessions. Jessica helped me with brainstorming and growing my ideas. So, for example, with my draft TED talk/speech, I presented what I was thinking, but Jessica helped me structure it and bring it to life. One of the things I accomplished was that I set up an LLC! I thought that setting up an LLC was going to be scary, but Jessica had already set hers up and encouraged me to do it, allowing me to set it up so quickly. Jessica helped me learn to set measurable goals that were tailored to me and my comfort level. For example, I would say, I want to do more Instagram lives about recovery, so Jessica pushed me to add a number to my goals. Jessica shared helpful knowledge to help me get started working with clients, and I was able to attract more clients by applying some of her strategies. Jessica encouraged me to pursue different opportunities that I had not considered, and her insight and expertise have been helpful for me. Now that were done, I feel like I have more of a focused and intentional brand. I have a momentum that I can keep up. Before, I had so many ideas that I didnt know how to structure and accomplish them. Now I know I can be consistent with my Instagram lives, my content, and my story. Now I can own my professionalism as a coach and be confident in my title as a coach. I am currently in recovery for 11 years, and I am a certified trauma recovery coach who is in recovery from drinking and eating disorders and it was beneficial that Jessica also walks a path of recovery with me because she brings a level of compassion and empathy that you cant buy.Priscilla G. Before I started working with Jessica I was confused. I had too many goals, too many things I wanted to do and was frustrated, confused and I didnt know to put anything in order. I learned how to organize my thoughts, to slow down and to put them into baby steps. I felt like I could help others put things in baby steps but not do it for myself. Since working with her, I definitely can follow my own advice now. When I see a big thing, I know how to break it down. Jessica showed me how to break bigger goals into smaller things. Jessica has helped me get more motivation because she taught me how to make a little bit of progress to move forward. I also learned how to maintain a routine and keep up with it. Now that Ive done six weeks of coaching with Jessica I feel more able to keep myself feeling stable in my feelings. I know I can move forward and be confident enough to help somebody else.Tim T. Jess and I went to grad school together many moons ago, and she was always a great role model. Years later, as a recovery coach, Jess embodies strength, self-assurance, and compassion. I really liked that she took note of what I discussed with her, because she was able to give suggestions and feedback in ways that I did not foresee. I gained a lot of insight and felt determined to achieve the SMART goal we created together. I look forward to continuing on this journey with her support. Jack D Coaching Client
